Be Aware: New fees for checked luggage (and fears of lost luggage) are causing many travelers to increase what they carry on board, overwhelming the cabin luggage capacity of some flights. As a result, airline personnel are sometimes rejecting carry-on bags that comply with published regulations. Always check with your airline to confirm carry-on restrictions, and prepare to check your bag if asked.

this is an easy suit case to live out of for a week on the road. No hanger capability, but holds plenty of clothes and compresses well.

Comments about Rick Steves 21" Roll Aboard Suitcase in Merlot:
I returned this item w/out using it. Yes, it is ultra lightweight & the packing organization is good. But I was concerned it would not last long because some important points of durability (which are standard on other luggage)are lacking --surprising since it is not a cheap bag. There is no rubber cording or any other kind of reinforcement on the back seams of the suitcase, except at the very bottom. It did not look like it would survive airport baggage handlers. Also, the scrape plate at the bottom is very small & cheap & not enough protection for rolling over cobblestones & up sidewalk curbs in Europe!

[...]I plan on using this luggage as my ONLY luggage for a 15 day trip to Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia and will be flying through Heathrow on 9/16. I read that a lot of luggage was being lost at Heathrow; I am not taking that chance.

Comments about Rick Steves 21" Roll Aboard Suitcase in Merlot:
you can use this wisely or rant that it is not a large suitcase; easy to move around even if expanded, but it may go over 40 lbs or 18 KG if you over pack.

Comments about Rick Steves 21" Roll Aboard Suitcase in Merlot:
I purchased this suitcase because it was the only one I could find that met my criteria: as lightweight as possible; smallish size; handles on both the side and top. I have used it once so far, and it performed well. I was able to store it in the overhead compartment of the plane with no difficulty. The issue of quality is yet to be determined.

This is the ONE bag I take for 2-week trips overseas. Packing light, light, light is the only way to go.
